Oistrakh, David
(1908-74)
   Russian violinist. Born in Odessa, he studied at the Odessa Music School and later taught at the Moscow Conservatory. During the 1930s he won various competitions including the Ysaye competition in Brussels. During World War II he performed at the front, in hospitals and in factories. In 1953 he played in Paris and London, and later in New York.
